Discharge (of charging order)

There is some confusion over the instruments that may be discharged via e-dealing. There have always been 16 discharge types available via e-dealing. There is a drop down list of the types of discharge instruments in the 'Create Dealing' screen in the instrument type field. This may be viewed by selecting the arrow at the right hand end of the instrument field.

The term 'discharge' is generically used to include withdrawals, satisfactions, releases etc. Virtually all discharges and partial discharges are (and always have been) available to register via e-dealing.

Any number of discharges can be included in the same e-dealing.

Some instruments such as a discharge of charging order (DCHO) can be confusing when preparing in the 'Prepare Instrument' screen. After inserting the correct instrument number and using 'Tab' a message will display advising that there is no chargeholder. That is mainly due to most charging orders being pursuant to specific statutes and the details of the chargeholder is not always held in a manner that links back to the discharge screen.

Simply click OK and proceed as normal.

It is possible to misconstrue the message as a prohibition on dealing with the discharge via e-dealing. A change of wording is proposed for that message to avoid confusion.
